So many times people come around asking for a hand or a handout and then you never hear from them again. Well not me...

Thanks to the support and effort of many people the Dick Lane Velodrome will be spared the demolition ball!

I want to say thank you to the CR listmembers for letting me soapbox a little bit and a big thank you to all that contacted me or our city council members to voice your support. Especially Nick Z. who wrote *and* came down south to witness the little circus that we call an East Point City Council meeting. The turnout from the cycling community had a definite influence on the council vote as did the emails (see below).

Thanks again and thanks Dale for not calling me out to the woodshed for these OT posts. And don't forget the Atlanta vintage ride this weekend...

Taz Taylor East Point, GA

Below is a summary from Wayne Whitesides (East Point Velodrome Assoc. member):
>
>
> Last night the city of East Point passed the EPVA's 20 year lease! Only
> attaching a small friendly amendment that really only amounts to
> paperwork. While we still have a long way ($100,000) to go before we can race again,
> we took a huge step forward last night.
>
> It was a tough battle and we had no idea of the outcome of our fate
> even as they started voting. As you all know, we have been closed,
> reopened, threatened to be torn down and basically put through the
> ringer for a long time. This will be the first time since we have been
> trying to save the track 7 years ago that we can honestly say we will
> have a velodrome for a long time to come.
>
> Thanks to everyone who sent letters and made phone calls. Every city council person said
> they had a lot of mail from all over and it made a big difference.
