I have had luck straightening wood rims with the help of a wood rim press that I built. I put the rims in a hot shower for a few minutes, then put the rim in my press and tighten down the bolts untill the rim is flat. I leave the rim the press to dry for a couple of weeks. When I remove the rim, it is nice and straight. It is best to build the rim up right away so it will not go back to it's previous warped state. Here are some pictures of my press

If you are refinishing the rim as well, I strip the rim first, then wet and put in the press, let dry, shellac and then build up.
