Just a thought for a the list, given the change in direction of the original post, it's a shame that no one changed the "Subject" as it's unlikely that anyone using the archives would look up "old saw" in order to read about that way to place a Simplex derailleur in a non Simplex drop out.

Many of us, myself included, should get better at insuring the subject line represents what is in the text body so that anyone making a reasonable attempt could find the info with an archive title search. The subject title is certainly the quickest way to know what should be in a current message too. I do realize the archive search can include the message info, but archive searching by title is generally quicker.
