Hi Dirk, I've found that there is a lot of variation of the individual bolts, and that out of a pile of them, there MAY be one that is perfect for a given derailleur, i.e., it pivots perfectly with no extra side slop. I have two possible alternatives for you: there are shims available that you can put between the derailleur and the drop out to adjust the clearance, or...if you find one that is a good cosmetic match (the size and style of the lettering, etc.) have a machinist make an "adjustment" to the length so it works for the derailleur.
