Why would the Mondonico Masi GC be any less (or more) collectible than a California Masi built by Howard, Tesch, Eisentraut, Stark or Confente even? Its been claimed that Faliero hadn't built a full frame since the late 1950's, and that Alberto's actual hands-on torch-in hand frame building was fairly abbreviated as well.

I bet there's not more than five people who could correctly identify the builder of a random group of Masi's based upon construction details alone (no looking up serial numbers). I suspect Brian Baylis and Jim Cunningham could do it and maybe -- maybe a few others who were there.

I think its about design, quality control and faithfulness(?) to construction techniques that kept the mark popular for so long, especially in the USA. Well, that and the silly Breaking Away mojo.

THAT should stir the pot a bit. Kudos to erichie for using 'eponymous' on list!!!!!!!!!!!
