Dirk,

In fact, your bike is MORE hand-made than the old ones. Back then, lugs were built up as Richard describes, but rarely built by hand - only for tandems or special geometries. These days, as parts are getting harder to find, more is done by hand.

Just finished filing dropouts for my Herse tandem that is being restored at the Singer shop - the originals aren't available any longer. The difference is 4 hours in the machine shop vs. opening a box... -- Jan Heine, Seattle Editor/Publisher Vintage Bicycle Quarterly http://www.mindspring.com/~heine/bikesite/bikesite/

Hey, don't spoil my imagination! I *want to believe* that the lugs on my 2003 Singer are built up like in the 60s. At least they are nicely filed and the inner radii are filled up with brazing.

??? I've lost my babelfish
