Are you talking about builders who make their living from framebuilding, or would you consider naing builders who have other jobs and build on the side? I don't mean this as a slam or anything... nothing says you have to do something full-time to be great at it. In fact, a guy who does it for love and has another source of income often does not mind working at a loss to produce something truly special.

Anyway, my favorite nominees for "framebuilders that the guys hangin' at my local bike shop have never heard of" are Peter Johnson and Richard Moon.
