Don Farrell had two shops one in Burnt Oak, Edgware, Middlesex. This was the first shop he opened. His second shop was in Hemel Hempstead Hertfordshire. He was married to Stella Farrell who raced for Great Britain. Towards the end the shops moved away from cycling goods and concentrated on ski equipment. Don retired from business in the 1980's and I believe retired to the West Country. I think he is now deceased. His frames were generally of good quality although he did sell some inexpensive ones. I remember the shop in Burnt Oak from the late 50's through to its closure sometime in the 1980's. Still have one of his track bikes. I am sure his frame numbering system employed a date code. There seems to be some debate on whether he built his own frames but I am sure I was told that he was still building the occasional frame in his retirement. It is more likely as this was one of our more successful cycling shops that he out sourced his frame building to keep up with demand. His shops were a mecca for North London and Hertfordshire cyclist's. The Edgware and Harp CC. were closely associated with him and his shop. This is one establishment I really miss and was just down the road from the equally famous Birds of Colindale. Please contact me off list as I am sure I have some Farrell block letter decals.
