thomas, i've got speedy's on my early 80's trek and i'm pleased with their stoping power. a bit more flexy than the gran sport calipers i've used, but the speedy's work well. the pads have been replaced with scott matthouser (the really generic looking ones) and i'm running (way off topic) mavic ma3's. i did find they squealed something terrible with ma40's though.

i've also got an el-cheapo set of modolo corsa (see also: america & sporting) brakes that i feel work well. kinda spongy feeling compared to speedys or campys, but they stop well - aftermarket pads on those too - sun cr18 hoops.

hard to go wrong with matthouser pads and machined
sidewall rims, imho.
cheers,
