Subject: [CR]POINT REYES RIDE REPORT

Certainly one of the best turnouts ever, after a little difficulty getting everyone to the same spot in FAIRFAX and waiting a little longer for late arrivers we rolled out towards PT REYES STATION,after a mile or so GERI GORSKI caught up to us on his AQUILA FIXED , GERI spent the rest of the ride pointing out the correct turns and zooming back to sweep up the assorted stragglers. We rode out over WHITES HILL and headed west on SIR FRANCIS DRAKE hwy, after the work of getting up the hill it was a nice coast down the other side and as the miles passed the grassland turned to a tree shaded road .We made a quick turn and rode out thru SAMUEL P.TAYLOR park riding along a former railroad bed ,one listmember described this as doing a mountain bike ride on your road bike(TOM you missed a good time) after crossing an old bridge we rode out BEAR VALLEY rd to POINT REYES STATION and quickly found the BOVINE BAKERY(interesting how many more emails there were after I mentioned the stop at the bakery!) So making the visit to the bakery but not necessarily going in were: "way out of towner" HARVEY SACHS riding a newly acquired HETCHINS ,DAVE CLEMENTSON on his trusty GITANE TDF,his wife SARAH making her first ride with us on her WATERFORD, FELIX CHIU on an immaculate MASI 3V OLYMPIC, JAN JOHNSON on a 91 PJ, PETER JOHNSON on a 82 PJ (theme there?) PETER CHU on a 81 PINNARELLO(PETER was snake bit with 3 flats,I think I jinxed him when I mentioned I had 4 flats on the same ride a couple years ago) GREG LUTZ on a 95 BOB JACKSON,GREG DAVIS on his 86 CINELLI SC,JOHN WATKINS on his '02 HETCHINS MAGNUM OPUS,TERRY McCLINTOCK on his COLIN LAING,JOEL METZ (another first timer) finally delivered on the threat to bring his FRANKENTAYLOR (his JACK TAYLOR touring complete with thru the frame electrical wiring for the generator lights.) GERI on his proviously mentioned AQULIA FIXED,ERIC ACUNA was there on abike I forgot to make note of(sorry) ,BRUCE SCHRADER on his pretty GIOS, I rode my BILL HURLOW(and promise to get a rear derailleur with a tension spring before I ride it again),my friend ROB APPLETON showed up on his only bike abet an OT one. I counted 17 riders so my apology to those I left out PT REYES was pretty ZANEY with CYCLISTS of all sorts (did anyone else notice the number of computers, clocks and such on that guys RECUMBANT?) MORGON TRIKES,MG TCs ,VINTAGE and non VINTAGE motorcycles and a genuine "SHADE TREE" bike shop

The ride back was via the NICASIO RESERVOIR and RANCHO NICASIO (for you ROCK N ROLL fans) after arriving back in FAIRFAX most of us adjorned to the PUB for TALL ONES (and not so tall ones) and what seemed to be mainly SALADS (I did notice JAN licking the inside of her JUNIOR MINT box....what was that all about?)

THANKS to all that made the ride ,hopefully you all enjoyed it as much as I did and for those who did not make it ...............theres always next time.

BOB FREITAS pea soup fog in MILL VALLEY,CA

PS it appears the "short cut" did nothing of the sort and we indeed did ride a full 40 miles according to the OT computer someone brought along( and my aching legs)
