Hi CR folks, Never mind what the Velo Girls bring in - if you want to strike it rich at veloswap SF or anywhere else keep an eye out for the following - stupid high prices will be paid for the right examples of these...and if found the cool stuff goes to the Cirque for display and not across the ocean (besides, nobody except me is really into the really esoteric French stuff). Mike Kone's current "I want to buy" hit list - rough numbers of what I'd pay if size (56-60 to top) and condition and bits are great. 1. Narcisse bike like the one in Vintage Bicycle Quarterly volume 2 number 3. But I don't want a tandem - I want a single bike. And you really want to strike it rich? Find me one with pre-war Herse bits. The ransom? If all right and there at least 4-5K. With early prototype Herse bits? - 8K if on the money. 2. A really done up well speced A. Maury bicycle. Should have the cool stem. Also figure if a knock out bike at least 5K. 3. A nice example of a Pitard - not sure of value, a nice one should be worth a couple of K or more. 4. A mens Reyhand - ladies one's are in the states, but not a single mens that I know of. For the right bike 3-4K or more. I know it is very unlikely that this stuff will turn up, but with 1,000 CR members out there, there is always the chance that something will be seen by someone. Most of the above is off the radar of the Japanese, but maybe the lure of cash will get some folks to do some digging with any contacts they might have. And - about 10 years ago a Maury frame showed up at veloswap in Denver. Neither myself or Jim Cunningham knew what it was! (just a frame, no bits, so not terribly cool but it shows that anything can show up anywhere!) Mike Kone in Boulder CO
