OK, I'll unmask myself; I was the winning bidder. What can I say? I want what I want, and it must be original -- no stickers on the cheaper stuff. Besides, another Masi owner (I believe, very well known to the CR List) was bidding against me! I paid too much but I got the real deal for my one and only '70's Masi GC.

far be it from me to rain on anyone's parade...but every original Masi I've seen had the *other* martano rims, the one with the truncated pyramid sticker. I can't honestly say I've seen an original Masi with those Martanos. But I probably haven't seen enough to know.

Is the difference in the stickers chronological, or does the difference denote a model..? I think maybe the different stickers denote different models, one lighter, one heavier. I'm sure someone can clarify this..in the meantime, the rims that are the *real* prize are the ones with the other sticker, imho. Just my opinion. And I also certainly snap up the Martanos Chris bought when I have the chance.

Btw, for what it's worth, I have a one page factory brochure featuring a of a Colnago Mexico from 1975, first generation Mexico (copies of which I handed out at the VR in October) it appears to be a show-bike, and you can just make out that the rims are the same Martanos as the ones Chris bought on ebay. Same sticker. Colnagos always came with Nisis, I thought, but clearly Ernesto used these Martanos also.

Concerning Carlos Kleiber one of the greatest of all post-war conductors:

The glamour often associated with a conductor's life held no appeal for him; he preferred to stay at home in Munich. He once told Leonard Bernstein: "I want to grow in a garden. I want to have the sun. I want to eat and drink and sleep and make love and that's it."
