Sapim is an old company, long predating any Masi. Actually, I was thinking Sapim when I saw the spokes. I've seen Sapims with similar looking heads, though they had the very faintest "I" on them. I think Masi brought much of the componentry over directly from Europe, rather than purchasing through US distributors, correct? If so, they might have had some stuff not commonly found in US shops or on other US manufactured frames.
