Some owners want a restoration to look, "just like original", so that it is very difficult to tell it is a restoration. Not that they plan to pass it off as original, just a point of pride. A painter's decal ruins that effect. I'm a bit like that myself, though not a fanatic on the point, and it did annoy me when a painter once installed his decal without asking me. Not a huge deal, mind you, but rather annoying.

I would prefer to have a painter discreetly sign a repaint/restoration so that an unsuspecting future buyer doesn't purchase what he thinks is an original. that isn't to say that anyone on this list would do such a thing, but we've seen misrepresented bikes on e-buy before.
If the bike has been repainted what does it hurt? It has already lost its cache or mojo or whatever you call it, if you believed it resides in the paint, anyhow when it was repainted.
