To which Fred added: It almost seems ironic that a bicycle tubing manufacturer would place advertisements in passenger trains. Or were they advertising their steel products in general, rather than bicycle tubing specifically.

I wish the NYC Subway system had bicycling-related advertisements when I rode it during my youth. Then again, at least I was able to practice my Spanish while riding the (in)famous Number 7 train.

So sell bikes to all those walkers! ;-) The difference, I think, is that in the US, a bike is (still mostly) considered a toy. Virtually everywhere else Worldwide, it's transportation and/or Sport.
