Subject: [CR]thoughts on 50s era front derailleurs for touring triples?

in the midst of deciding exactly what parts im going to be hunting for as i slowly piece together my 1949 jack taylor tourist, theres one part that i just cant seem to make my mind up about... the front derailleur.

the 1950s era jack taylor catalogue says simplex tourist type 56, but im giving myself a little leeway from "stock", and using whatever i think would have been ideal, within reason, from within the 1949-1959 time period. arbitrary, yes, but thats what im working with. if it still had original paint (rather than a jack taylor respray sometime in the mid-80s - the only circumstance in which i was okay with a respray :) ), id probably go for a full 1949 "stock" setup, but...

so i figured id ask the list - given the time period (again, 1949-1959), and the other related specs (downtube shifter mounts, cyclo chainstay mount rear derailleur, triple front chainwheels, touring gear range) - what derailleur from that period would have offered the best functionality? (cause yes, this will be an occassional rider)

thoughts?

thanks in advance - i appreciate your assistance!

-joel
