Snip Peter Gilbert Another option is to use a barrel adjuster assembly from a Dia-Compe brake, # 64. This assembly was used on basic side pulls like the 500's, 730's. Kind of hard to describe, but I could fax you a image of one if you would like.

Actually I have done this before. It works really well and does not smack STI -ish. The one time I did it though was a hoot. I did it wrenching for a shop in Alfred NY. The bike was a soma with a dura ace AX group. Aero mind you. Now an odd decace or so the owner had me install one of those stem raisers that gave him bars 5 inches higher and stem shifters.
