Subject: [CR]Oldest NY bike shops

I remember Toga Bike Shop in the very early 1970s, when they were located in "alphabet city." I think they were on Avenue B and 13th Street, when Lenny Preheim started the company. And yes, as Dale points out, they were distributers for Richard Sachs frames. There must be something to this karma thing. I grew up in the Amsterdam housing projects, located between Amsterdam Avenue and West End Ave. and West 59 - 64 Streets. I lived on 64th Street in the 1950s and was teased when I came out of my building rolling my bike to the curb, clopping along in bike shoes and wearing form fitting wool cycling clothing. During the late 1950s, and the start of my college years, I was enthralled by the music of Thethelonious Monk. Today, Toga bike shop is located on West 64th Street and West End Avenue, and 64th Street is dedicated to Monk who lived on my block.
