"Peter, you have been hit by one of the quirks of riding tubulars ... you weren't carrying a spare. It is widely known that if you carry a spare, you won't flat, but if you don't carry a spare, you will flat. :^)"

Earle, it's true! And I am convinced the reason so many folks urge me to spend $100 a pop on Veloflex Criteriums is that they never flat.. why? Not because they are made by little Italian elves but because after spending S O much on tyres, you get to pray to the same little Tubular God who looks after you and your rubber n' latex. I don't know about the rest of you, but after switching to tubulars I am a much more attentive rider... I ke ep my eyes on that pavement in front, eagle-eyed for every glimmering piece of could be glass, rocks, pebbles, pop-tops and sundries. And if you finish a ride without a flat, it's a bigger thrill than winning a stage in the TdF.

So there's no going back to clinchers for me.. it would be too practic al and boring. And I'd just find something useful to do with all that money

saved, too.

But enough of such talk, I am just jinxing myself for my afterwork ride. ...
