Since we are on the subject of Pogliaghi, would you knowledgeable Pogliaghi afficionados please look at these photos and tell me what you think? Please look carefully at the fork crown, the crude method of fixing the seat post, and the engraved signature on the steerer -- does it say Pogliaghi? The rear der. and the crank set are dated 1979.

Here is the link (open the Pogliaghi album):

I got this bike for free, but as you will see from the photos it was horribly neglected. I have never seen corrosion this bad on aluminum components. I was skeptical about it's origin because it has no lugs, however, did Sante do fillet brazed frames during his career?

Thanks very much for any help.

Jay Sexton Sebastopol, CA Yikes! That looks like the ultra-rare Tutti Frutti Aeroissimo model (in Team Red, no less...)! Constructed purely of comercially-pure unobtainium, IIRC.... That crank is dated 1976, but I doubt that bears any relation to the age of frame. Looks home-built, or possibly Taiwan-built. I doubt that it came from anywhere in Italy. Is that BB fillet-brazed, or TIG-welded? hard to tell for sure from the picture of the underside. Dig that fork crown construction (Asian Schwinn perhaps?). The frameset looks very "1983-1988" aero-craze to me. Save the stem and the rear der.... What does the whole thing weigh? What is the BB and HS threading? If BSC, it's likely from the USA or Taiwan, if French......
>From the BB stamping, it looks like a 54-cm. built in 1988.
