Heck, with both the girl and the bike in the dumpster, it might have been okay to risk the fine Zegna threads by clambering in.... ;-)

Speaking of suits, (& BTW) half of what a "city bike" is about (perhaps) is (or was) being able to wear a suit while riding it. Not that you can't use the old pants clip, but sometimes the idea of a Simplex chain guard or the like has appeal--won't crumple the suit pantleg as readily. So vive le five-speed (at least occasionally).

Funny, though, it matters less these days--the suit (forget about a hat). One often has to dress down to work in an office now, unless an uber-executive or salesman of the real estate broker, etc., type. I wear a tie on the bandstand to play '60s soul music, but usually not at the various "day jobs"--office temp stuff.

Lacking a day job this week, I have a few more items to sell:

1. MAFAC Competition centrepull brakes; I guess this is the second generation of these: logo in a black trapezoid shape, off to the side. Short, or at least, short-ish reach. Anyone know what year these (2nd Gen) appeared? I'm lacking the straddle cables, which need to be double-ended. Good used (not perfect, but reasonably clean) condition: $45 + shipping

2. SUNTOUR rear derailleur, Vx GT model, also good condition: $20 (+ shipping) Works beautifully.

3. Mentioned before, but price now lower: CAMPAGNOLO Record brake levers, good workhorse condition. Some marks, but nice looking overall. $21 + shipping

4. CAMPAGNOLO black shield hoods. "User" condition, they look nice but if you look closely you will see 2 abrasions on one of them, and on the other, a very small tear (closes itself right up) where the cable will be. From two feet away or less they look great. $21 + shipping.

Your consideration of these items is much appreciated. I would like to experiment with a random process for selecting the recipient, as I am leaving now for the evening anyhow. Please e-mail to express your willingness to buy, and I will use a random process upon my return to find the buyers (assuming there is more than one, or any, respondent. This gives those who are mid-commute, etc. a chance! Thanks for your indulgence.
