Hi Mike & all,

I'm sure Mike has forgotten more stuff than I'll ever know, but I think his recollections of a Campy-equipped Fuji are a little hazy. :^}

There was a Professional Super Record around '82 or so. I can't access my catalogs right now, but I think all the parts were European. Mavic rims, Euro tires. I'll check spec later and report. This bike was a beauty, but at the time I was so totally convinced of the superiority of Japanese componentry that I didn't understand why Fuji would spec it or anyone would buy it. Wish I had the foresight to shake off my youthful arrogance, and the cash on hand to buy one.....

I'm not aware of any stock Campy-equipped '70s Fuji, or any Campy NR-spec'd model from the '70s or '80s. I have most catalogs dating back to '70 or so, and the '82ish Professional Super Record is the only Campy spec bike to be found.

There were several US Fuji distributors during the '70s, and so I guess it's possible that one of them found a way to spec a bike with Campy NR, but it doesn't seem likely. It's hard to imagine Fuji Japan making considerable effort to source NR groups from Italy for only a handful of bikes. Maybe a distributor brought in painted frames and assembled the bikes in the US? I'd love to see a photo of a stock '70s Fuji with NR.

Cheers,
