And the weight of the thing ensures that you'll never lose traction on your rear wheel! They worked ok, but by the early 70s there were plenty of Japanese long-cage derailleurs available that worked much better.

The "Rally" had a couple incarnations. The one with dual springs (http://www.ravanello.com/shop/oldparts/02/) worked very nicely; the one with only a single spring (http://www.ravanello.com/shop/oldparts/01/) was pretty mediocre.
