I have to agree that there is most likely a missing digit missing in the serial number. However, even without the complete serial number, this bike is a pretty close match for the one at vintage-trek.com. Didn't Campagnolo Triomphe begin about 1985? The decals match 1985. as does the drivetrain. As far as the color matching, the 410 came in blue or red in '85. There could be some color change due to the sellers camera or even from fading. The bike looks pretty decent by the pics, but a bit newer than I prefer. Vintage-Trek.com has a copy of the 1985 brochure listed at: http://www.vintage-trek.com/images/trek/85TrekSport.pdf The 400 and 500 series weren't bad bikes for the guy who just wanted a good set of wheels without spending a bundle. It's a far cry above a low end Shimano equipped bike from that era.

It looks to me that this guy is some sort of general antiques or collectables dealer, and probably knows very little about bikes, and is using some "used car salesman" hype to make a sale. It also may very well look like a high end bike to him, especially if the last one he happened across was a department store special.
