This is CR off topic by about 15 years(pre 1900)!That's just what Mr Dunlop did--his scientific tests--he rolled two types of tyres and sure enough his 2"wide air filled tyre rolled farther than the 1"hard racing tyre.Then he had to special build his bike to fit the tyres. sam lingo,pleasanton tx
