. . . . . . thanks to all those who replied, both on and off list. Obviously 1984 was a watershed (in Big Brother speak) year.

This group has been quite a comfort to me, as I've never ridden, or even straddled, a modern road bike, and am only learning in retrospect all the changes that have taken place in the last two decades. And, for the life of me, I still can't comprehend: 1. indexed shifting, 2. clipless pedals, 3. unthreaded fork tubes, 4. freewheels that don't screw on. Well, I guess they're still bicycles - after all there's two wheels, handlebars, a crankset and seats made of some kind of odd materials.

I supposed sometime this winter, I'll pick up a repair manual and start learning what I've missed over the years. Maybe. I'd rather spend the time lacing a set of sew up wheels for my Gran Sport, and start looking for a second bike.

Thanks a lot,

George R. "Syke" Paczolt Montpelier, VA
