I've been corrected by another list member concering these levers. As I look more closely at the pics it seems clear the holes were not punched in flat metal, then stretched when the levers were shaped..rather, the holes appear to be drilled and countersunk.

So, then, they are early levers and the hoods are later replacements. I just assumed the hoods were original, given the shape of the levers...I'm told the levers were available in both long and short reach... what do others say?
