I seem to remember having a set of Weinmann calipers many years ago that used a special washer/spacer that was made to fit between the plates of a twin plate fork crown.
I would be on the lookout for an old Columbia (made in Westfield, MA) bike with a twin plate fork and a front caliper brake, and steal the spacer/washer from the front brake.
