Say it isn't so, Jerry.... I am shocked! But it's a good thing I wearing my period correct Ray-Bans when I took my '81 Peugeot on our first long ride together as the sun was glinting off that substandard chrome on the front fork something fierce! But yes.. my point was that mediocre chrome and paint is much better when topcoated... lasting mediocrity trumps fleeting perfection anyday.
