I think the UNMARKED Universals were a more basic version. I remember seeing them on less expensive Italian bikes. The Mod 61s also had beefier springs and nicer cosmetics. I'm not sure of where these sit on the timeline.

I have a question about dating Universal center-pulls. I've seen two versions. One is engraved "Universal Mod. 61" and the other just "Universal", of which I have a pair. I assume the latter is also a Mod 61 since that is apparently the only center-pull they made. Which came first?

Logic would dictate that the one labeled "Universal" was first, with the one bearing the model designation introduced when a new, different model came into the line (Mod 68?). But logic doesn't always hold. Anyone know.

TIA.
