The following is only my experience here in SoCal... I regularly ride with four or five other guys who meet at Velo Pasadena bike shop. They all ride Time VXRs, $7500, 16 pound "carbon fibre wonders." I'm usually on my De Rosa, Masi or Colnago Super Record equipped bikes (21 pounds).

The times I've ridden their bikes, it frankly makes my De Rosa, Colnago or Masi feel like a pig! Not too surprising to me since there must have been improvements made to racing bikes in the past 40 years.

Doesn't make me love my classics any less though...
