Hello all, I am just back from collecting the holy grail of my Gillott collection-the only known complete trike. Built in 1956. I would be glad to hear from anyone with another. It has mudguard eyes on the axle bosses, at 3 and 9 o'clock looking from the side. I have never seen a trike with guards and would like to know how they are fitted. Can anyone help? The frame is lugless, has a fancy fork crown with sturdy round blades. It is built for gears driving the left wheel on Higgins axles and hubs. The previous owner had built it with 70's Campagnolo bits so I will be retro-ing it with Stronglight crank and rings and Gran Sport mechs. Brakes are currently a Weinmann on an extension fitted by the late George Longstaff and naff Japanese cantilevers. I plan to fit Mafac brakes and levers. Rules dictate that Trikes must have 2 brakes so 4'' x 1/2'' bar has been brazed the fork crown. The transfers are Nicks old style so they will come off, they are badly chipped anyhow and replaced with his updated ones. It also has 70's 531 tube and fork transfers so they will be off and Gillott fork transfers fitted to the blades and a small 531 round the back of the seat tube.
