I have just built a retro single/fixie using one of those Centurion Turbo frames, and the ride is all you said it is. The Tange tubing is stiff and solid feeling, much more suited to my pedal mashing style then Columbus tubing. I am around 200 lbs, 5ft 8in and a recovering BMX racer (people over 12 do actually ride 20" bikes in the dirt). Currently the bike is built up with 170mm late 60's era 151 bcd Campy cranks, Campy record BB, 1980's super record pedals, clips and straps, custom Ambrosio hubs laced to Suzue track hubs with twisted spokes, vintage 23mm "Gentleman" tires. I run a single f/w these days and a pair of Gran Compe brakes till I get fit enough to run fixed again. The frame was fully chrome plated below the paint as well, and is currently stripped down to the chrome awaiting a re-paint and lug lining. I will get some pics up in the next few dats to share :)
