Constant tension, consistent technique, patience, and some 3M spary adhesive go along ways :) As far as finishing cloth tape. I use twine since electrical tape just doesn't look right with cloth tape:

That being said, I have heard but never seen the Singer method of wrapping bars with cloth tape. I read somewhere that he will wrap from the top down at the flats away from the bike, and then from the bottom up from the drop end and shellac or something like that? Any truth to that? The top would look cleaner, and after the shellac I would think that the tape rolling not be a problem.
