David, I do all mine. Each coat gets thicker and glossier. I noticed that they were slick in the rain too. The real leather gloves did slide,but, the newer fabric gloves do grip well. But, You don't like gloves,so, a light sanding may help,try it. But, after a 100 miles you may shine them up again. Or get the color tape of your desires and tape over the old. You can't get the bars too thick for comfort. Hot and muggy in La, the beer drinking Capital of the Earth! No I don't drink,but they do. Dickey Greer in West Monroe,La
