David, I do all mine. Each coat gets thicker and glossier. I noticed that they were slick in the rain too. The real leather gloves did slide,but, the newer fabric gloves do grip well. But, You don't like gloves,so, a light sanding may help,try it. But, after a 100 miles you may shine them up again. Or get the color tape of your desires and tape over the old.
