Subject: [CR]A little announcement

Dear Listmembers,

I have teased everyone a little recently with a pending announcement. He re is the real deal. I am about to enter the "final phase" of my framebu ilding career. I figure I have about 10 more years of building left. I p lan to make about 8 bikes per year. In order to do this and to make the last 10 years of my career the best, I have offocially bailed out of the painting/restoration business. I will still maintain the name Vintage C ycle Studios and Baylis Cycles, but the painting will cease once I have cleared everything in my shop. I have a few deals pending that I will ho nor (bikes not in my possesion yet) and trades I've made with one or two people to complete; but the regular paint business is over. It's been c omming for a while and finally the threat is real.

What happened?? Well, the time finally arrived for me to build a custom workshop on my property. I was expect another two years before this happ ened, but the time is now. No painting will take place here, that's the main reason next to wanting out and really wanting to build some super c onstructuer bicycles. I do have an off premisis workshop that I will con tinue to paint my bikes in. Repainting is a real chore and the volume of work I have is way more than even 2 or 3 people could handle. Decals ha ve always been a pain in the ass and I'm now tired of trying to find eve ry perfect detail for every frame. It's way too much work. Restoreing is fun and rewarding work, but constructing is now my primary focus.

Don't expect over the top lug cutting and all that. Look at the AeroTour and you should see where I'm heading. I plan to spend a lot of time des igning components to go with the frames and making these special parts a vailable to the public also.

20 of the 80 bikes I have left in me are spoken for; the final numbers I haven't taken orders for, and probably won't for quite a while. Don't g et excited. I haven't figured out how to go about this part yet. Anyway, that's it. Doors closing to the paintshop. New workshop pending and the golden years of my framebuilding ahead of me. I hope this is the last g yration I have to make in order to do the work I love and still maintain my sanity. I'm hoping to get out and ride a lot more also. Painting bik es pretty much assures me there will be no time for anything else. I nee d time for myself.

Totally serious this time.
