Subject: [CR]New England Vintage (Masi?) Ride Report

A small but enthusiastic group of vintage cycling fans showed up last Saturday, June 17th, in Northfield, MA for a vintage ride. The Vermont contingent was strong accounting for three-fifths of the turn-out. The ride, led by Norm LaFleur, wound about 50 miles through mostly back roads of towns in the area. Classically beautiful New England scenery!

But before we got going, time was spent ogling each other's bikes. To our surprise, among the five riders who appeared, three brought Masis, and all three were California Masis from 1975! Steve Goodwin had MC58 #044; Norm brought MC56 #787, and I brought the one formerly owned by Jim Cunningham, MC64 #010. (It would seem that you left coast folks have nothing on us New Englanders when it comes to Masis!)

Other bikes of interest included Steve and Jeanne Barner's Paul Kydd tandem, built somewhere between '73 and '75. It was painted by Ben Serotta, in his early days. Norm also brought a gorgeous 60s vintage Legnano. I showed off my 1981 Ron Stout and my recently built up 1977 Richard Sachs (which is the bike I used for the ride). Steve Barner also brought a lovely 1973 Raleigh Pro.

A few photos can be seen on my Wool Jersey page here: <http://www.wooljersey.com/gallery/David-G-Whites-Bikes>.

It was a great ride. Thanks Norm, Steve, Steve and Jeanne! Let's do it again sometime!

Cheers,

David
