In the movie "To Catch a Thief," I always thought Alfred Hitchcock missed a beat, when he did not show at least one scene of John Roby, the Cat, played by Cary Grant, keeping fit in Nice on a lithe French road bicycle. The Cat almost certainly would have ridden a fine road bike to stay fit. This Urago, in its original condition, might have been John Roby's bike (though some would no doubt argue for a Singer or a Herse). Wouldn't it have been great to see Mr. Roby nee Cary Grant be chased by a black Citroen Traction Avant through Nice and avoid it by darting down a too narrow alley between two buildings. Such a scene might have popularized French road bikes in America a decade before the bike boom; then when the boom came Americans would have demanded better French bikes and fewer junkers. P.S.: Seeing a radiant young Grace Kelly on a Herse mixte, in something chic and sporting would not have hurt the film's box office either. :-)
