Chuck, According to Lloyd-Jones and Lewis "Raleigh and the British Bicycle Industry", essential reading for serious Raleigh enthusiasts, Carlton was taken over in December 1959. This was presumably the same date that production of 'their own frames' ceased. It all depends on your definition. It is often said that history is written by the victors. So far as cycling is concerned I am still waiting for the definitive Shimano version ......... Nigel Land Barton on Humber UK PS On a similar theme I asked for Falcon frame numbers and dates some time ago, with no feedback.

Hi Folks,

I've spent some time going through the archives but I still am coming up "empty" regarding a few things: When <exactly> was Carlton purchased by Raleigh? When did Carlton STOP producing their own frames? What would be a fairly accurate idea of the production date for frame #G2946? And, what do the various letters in Carlton's serial numbers designate?

Thanking All in advance..........
