Not strictly related to the 71 Masi -- much to late for this kind of treatment -- but I have several old track bikes that were raced in the 40's both on the track and on the road, and these guys didn't twist their straps they actually put a nut and bolt arrangement through the stap on the inside of the pedal strap opening. That way when they pulled up they could never move the strap at all. It was blocked in place essentially. Edward Albert Chappaqua, NY
