I'm just back from my first, and hopefully not last L'Eroica.

I had a wonderful time riding and hanging out with Bob and Rita Freitas, Mike and Robin Schmidt, Courtney and Jennifer Johnson, Guy Apple and his girlfriend Debbie (sorry Debbie, I forgot your last name), and David Benson.

You have a choice of 38, 75, 135 and 200 km routes. David and Courtney did the 135. The rest of us did the 75. At least we set out to do it. Apparently someone swiped one of the course markers and it was not discovered until Guy and myself had passed that turn. The result was that Guy and I did a considerably shorter version. It was a sour note in an otherwise outstanding trip.

Having experienced the L'Eroica I feel like doing any of the shorter rides is contrary to the spirit of the event. L'Eroica means "of heros". The event is a celebration of heroic efforts. The riders who do the epic rides on the most "heroic" bikes are the champions of the day. I felt like a spectator... At least I had a ring-side seat!

Anyway, I took some pictures. Please take a look:
