One of the earliest "modern" alumnium bikes was Delage (the car maker), who made one that wasn't so successful (late 1920s, early 1930s), then came Caminargent with screwed-together production frames in the mid-1930s, and that same year Barra with custom bikes brazed from ovalized aluminum tubing. The latter really put aluminum bikes on the map. Others followed, including Hurtu. After the war, many makers tried their luck with series-produced bikes.

Aluminum bikes from Barra, Caminargent and Marcadier are featured in our book "The Golden Age of Handbuilt Bicycles."
