Sasha,

Actually many of those custom and semi-custom bikes are subjects of other posts on my blog. This is about inexpensive production bikes, sub $1500, that are still being made and equipped in the classic manner. I find it more interesting that the average Akira can walk into a bike shop and buy this type of bike.

The Toei, Cherubim, and Hirose bikes are particularly gorgeous, and the match of any builder out there...

These are lugged, use downtube shifters, non-aero levers, and other neo-classic components. Perhaps they are not truly KOF bikes in the strictest sense, but I find it fascinating that they are still in production. This shows that there is still a fair sized market for the type of bike we like, though it is in Japan. Please explore the links in the post.
