Subject: [CR]Help needed with Bates pre-war head badge

I am renovating a 1939 Bates cantiflex frame, which has now been re-chromed and enamelled, and I am ready to fit the original head badge. This is a much smaller badge than the more common one, which is used on my matching 38 ladies frame, and is fitted right at the top of the chrome head tube. I have posted a picture of the small badge from the 39 frame at http://ntlworld.photobox.co.uk/album/1571123 http://ntlworld.photobox.co.uk/album/1571123 .

It appears as though it had some dark red colour on it at some time, but I am not sure if that was the original colour, if it was that colour all over, or if other colours were used also. Can anyone enlighten me about this please? I have checked with Ray Etherton, who thinks it might have been red and black, but isn't at all sure, and the V-CC Bates ME, Martin Coopland, who has only ever seen them in this condition. A photo of an original or accurately renovated one, or catalogue illustration, would be great.
