Two months later, at Montlhéry, Berthet increased his distance to 49.992 kms, narrowly missing the magical 50 kilometer mark. In 1933 the official hour record for a conventional bike was Maurice Richard's 45.394. Berthet was forty-five years old, and had been away from the pro ranks for a decade.
