Seventy-Eight Years Ago
(Not a great scan, but worth a look...)
Canadian rider Douglas Peden (right) wearing his striking "CANADA" maple leaf jersey. He and teammate Van Massenhove won the amateur "Américaine" (a.k.a. "Madison") during the "Réouverture" at the Vel d'Hiv in Paris. One of Canada's greatest cyclists, Peden went on to race professionally from 1933 through 1942, appearing in many 6-Day races. From "Le Miroir des Sports" No.452/788, 16 October 1928.
