Take your velcro fastening shoes to a local cobbler and have them convert them for lacing. I had this done with some Diadora Voyager shoes. Here was my inspiration obtainde from a long ago iBOB posting:

For my pair, I had an Amish cobbler remove both sets of velco fasteners even though only the lower one interferes with the straps/clip on entry.
