Thanks for bringing that frame to our attention..

That frame is circa is a year or two after my Speciale, part of the last batch that that Wm. Lewis Imports brought into the USA in maybe 1981-82. And they were all that purple color! I sold a couple of those though the shop in those days..

Also notice that it has the top of the down tube mounted "aero" shifter mounting, using the Gippieme adapter. The creases in the tubes were unique to that batch too, the chain stays were very very short... again, I think about 40 CM..

Picchio is an interesting builder. If you study closely all the bits, the lugs, the BB shell, etc. they seemed to use different core parts from other makes. The lugs initially look like they are highly filed & reshaped DuBois, but upon closer scrutiny, I do not think they are... The BB shell's have an unfamilar look too; all the elements have an artisan 1950s look. I think these frames show more individualism and style than many of their competitors who often have a "me-too" look.

I hope a tall list member grabs this frame up and saves it from obscurity! Dale Brown Greensboro, North Carolina USA -----Original Message----- From: rfrobb@bellsouth.net To: classicrendezvous@bikelist.org Sent: Sun, 3 Dec 2006 1:31 PM Subject: [CR]Ebay Outing Picchio Speciale-ends tonight

Apologies if I'm outing a listmembers' watch list but these don't come along very often. 60 c-c Picchio Speciale that ends this evening. Item #: 190056388607

Looks like it's the Model Speciale (Luglicker special) with the sweet lugwork and crimped stays similar to the Listmeisters but not the Olympic version. Looks to be late 70's/early 80's. I've got a 58 cm version and it rides like a dream.

Alas, too big )-:
