<< ...Eisentrauts and several Limiteds over the years, ... (snip)... A pointless distinction if ever there was one! >>

Hi ho Gene:

I have handled all of the above at various times over the years and I can say with reasonable assuredness that the mod. Limiteds were "uneven", I assume depending up the hands that made them and the speed that they were produced. ...

On the other hand, the "A" frames I have seen seemed to be a distinct cut above aesthetically, more TLC in filing up and joinery finesse.

The Rainbow 'Trauts suffered this same malady as that of the Unlimited that of being unpredictable. Last time I was in Terry Shaw's shop in Santa Clara, CA, he had a quite nicely made Rainbow Traut hanging on the wall. http://www.classicrendezvous.com/Bike_Shops/Shaws_lightweight.htm It is a lot nicer that the last one I had in my shop (late 1980s?), which we sent back as unacceptable.

None of this has much to do with riding quality; as a frame can look like crap and ride well, and vice versa.

I've had the pleasure of re-spraying several Eisentrauts and several Limiteds over the years, here are a few (IMHO) relevant observations

If it wasn't built for you, made to order, custom, What possible difference could it make if its a beautifully crafted hand built "production" frame or a bespoke (thats small "b", I'm sure one of Norris' frames is beyond special), custom or whatever made for someone else? A pointless distinction if ever there was one!

I don't know if the Limiteds I've sprayed were built by Bruce Gordon or one or another of Mr. Eisentrauts other coconspirators. The first Limited I sprayed is easily among the finest frames I've ever had the pleasure of working on. Granted I never got to ride it, I acknowledge that the proof is in the riding, but...................... I've not yet sprayed an "A" frame equal to that one, but maybe it was made on a really good day

If anybody on this list really thinks Bruce was as all abrupt about this frame, call Albert and ask him about Limiteds. I'll watch from over here, thanks.

And CycleArt has the original artwork for these decal and will reproduce them for a price. Talk to Susan.
