Subject: [CR]ebay outing: merckx de rosa - SCAM

I sent the seller a message, pointing out that the included image of an actual ex-Merckx bike has obviously caused confusion, resulting in bids far out of line with the value of the "actual" bike depicted in the 5 other photos. I pointed out that language such as "the same bike" is not the same as "the same brand of bike," and added that I suspect that he is aware of this. Maybe he'll reply.

The thing that really chaps me about this auction is that the seller very well may have used the "stock" DeRosa image until he could get proper photos uploaded, but now he is conveniently ignoring the obvious confusion that this has caused. Maybe I'm naive, but I believe that he honestly did not set out to deliberately rip anyone off. This is actually what I find most irritating about this auction. He's just taking the "I have no control over what people bid" attitude, and I bet he'd add that there is "no reason to say that someone doesn't just really, really want a mid-80's DeRosa." It's weak ethics. If this guy made a claim on his auto insurance and received five times the actual value of a totalled car, he'd just take the money and say, "shucks, I didn't realize may car was worth THAT much, tee-hee."

Grrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
